Rights Respecting Rangers

Rights Respecting Rangers

Each year children who are interest in children’s rights put forward their reasons why they would like to become a Rights Respecting Ranger.  They are then voted in by their peers from Year 2 to Year 6.

The Rights Respecting Rangers meet regularly to discuss issues regarding children's rights in relation to the school, the local community as well as global issues.

The Commissioner for Wales works closely with schools and each month sets Monthly Matters challenges for the children to take part in. The children at Brynnau Primary School really enjoy taking part in these real life challenges.

Throughout the year the whole school learns about their rights. Children’s rights are at the core and philosophy of our curriculum.  We try to embed the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in our practice and culture.  This enables our children to see themselves as rights-respecting global citizens and advocates for fairness of the children’s rights locally and globally.

The Rights Rangers, enjoy their role and take it very seriously indeed!

We strongly believe that Children’s Rights are:

  • for all children all over the world

  • given from the day children are born

  • not able to be taken away

  • automatically received and do not need to be earnt

  • equal and each right is important
