Our outdoor environment!
We love to be out and about... The children will have daily access to the outside environment, including the woods so warm clothes will be appreciated as the weather becomes colder but after our disappointing summer, we are hoping for a pleasantly warm autumn! Please could children also bring in a pair of wellies clearly labelled with their name to be stored in the welly shed for our woodland adventures. Apologies now but there may be many occasions when your child returns home a little wet or very muddy but I promise you they will have had lots of fun!
Home learning adventures!
Home learning adventures will be posted on our class teams page each fortnight. These will be linked to your child's learning experiences in school. These are suggested not compulsory activities, but the children do love sharing their home discoveries in school!
Login to your child's teams page through Hwb here.
A helping hand...
There are endless resources available free on the internet, which can be used to support your child. A particularly good site is twinkl which provides games and activities which can be downloaded for free, the resources section on the Welsh Hwb website, Jolly Phonics Rhymes and Hairy Phonics Letters which can be found on YouTube and Mrs Madge's favourite, Jack Hartmann.
Don't forget...!
Please label all belongings especially coats, jumpers, lunchboxes and shoes!
A small fruit snack is required each day - please place all fruit snacks in a pot or plastic bag clearly labelled with your child's name and ensure any grapes are cut appropriately.
Reception and Nursery children will not require a P.E. kit this term as we will only be removing our shoes and socks for our physical sessions. You are welcome to provide your child with a pair of plimsoles if they would prefer.
Suggested ways in which you can support your child
Nursery - Practice recognising and tracing/writing your child's name. Painting, cooking, playdough, colouring and cutting are fantastic activities for building your child's muscles and improving their fine motor skills. Continue to share favourite stories to develop your child's communication and pre-reading skills. Throughout the term the children will learn to count up to 10 and all the way back to 0! We will begin to recognise numbers up to 10 and have a go at writing them too! Playing bingo and snap helps them to name the numbers up to 10 - it is important to make things fun and hands-on!
Suggested ways in which you can support your child
Reception - When they are ready each week your child will be given units of CVC words to bring home. Please encourage and support your child to break each word down into sounds to read the word. We will also practice these words with your child in school and new units of words will be sent home when required. When your child is confident segmenting and blending sounds, they will receive high frequency works to work on at home (try a few each week) and a reading book. When a new book is brought home please enjoy listening to your child read and talk to them about the story, asking them questions about events/characters/favourite part and sign or make a brief comment in their reading record book. If your child is unaware of a word encourage them to break it down into sounds wherever possible. It is important that they can read and remember the words. Some suggestions as to how you can help with the words are as follows:
Playing eye spy or matching games by writing pairs of words onto paper.
Memory games using post-it notes to cover words guessing what is covered/missing etc.
Oxford owl is a great website to practice reading skills to familiarise your child with the Oxford Reading Tree books and characters. Throughout the term, the children will learn to count up to 20 and all the way back to 0. We will begin to learn addition facts to 6 and above and count on with confidence! Encouraging your child to solve simple sums mentally through fun and games would be very beneficial. Playing bingo and snakes & ladders helps them to name and order numbers to 20. Using dice also helps with addition and counting skills.
